Successful macaque trial at CWRU replicates RV144 Thai vaccine study

Case researcher Rafick-Pierre Sekaly and team study Thai vaccine trial

A “breakthrough” study in macaques could help create a viable vaccine capable of tackling HIV.

The study sought to reproduce RV144, the “only” HIV vaccine that has been successfully tested in a clinical trial. The researchers also replaced a substance found to “induce antibody-mediated immunity” with another substance, MF59, to see if it would decrease susceptibility of SIV (simian immunodeficiency virus).
